The minipill contains a small amount of progestin and no estrogen. It's taken daily without any breaks. Since the progestin dose is low, it mainly works by thickening cervical mucus to prevent sperm from reaching the egg. You should take the pill at the same time each day to maintain its effectiveness. Some people using the minipill may still ovulate, which can lead to various menstrual changes like regular periods, irregular bleeding, spotting, or no periods at all, depending on how their body responds.
